Online Dating Book for Women

Confessions of an Online Dating Addict
is definitely a female dating book. Since Jane Coloccio dated in the New York City and New Jersey areas, you might find this reads a little like a Sex and the City reunion. She apparently went on dates or otherwise interacted with about 200 single men, so you get to read about her experiences with every type of New York City singleton you can imagine: the good guys, the psychos, the youths, the gray hairs and the pickup artists.

Along the way, the author of Confessions offers plenty of online dating advice for people (especially women) who are just getting into the internet dating scene. She gives a do’s and don’t list, as well as a “things to watch out for” when dating online for the first time.

Jane Coloccia’s Online Dating Career

Jane Coloccia got into online dating when a friend of hers who found love almost immediately recommended she give virtual dating a try. So Jane gave e-dating a try, and eventually found herself on all the big online dating websites: Cupid, Match, Matchmaker, American Singles and eHarmony. Jane was one of 60,000,000 online daters still searching for the perfect hookup, but she finally met her a man before Confessions of an Online Dating Addict.

Review of Confessions of an Online Dating Addict

I have not read this book, so don’t expect a review of Confessions of a Dating Addict. I just learned this book existed and I’m not sure how relevant a female single dating in New York City is to me personally, but I did want to point out such an informative book to all the ladies out there who would find this interesting. In lieu of a personal critique, let me mention some of the praises and complaints that others have raised about Confessions.

It sounds like Confessions of An Online Dating Addict is written in a snarky and comedic style, so you’ll get humerous representations of the online dating types that Jane Coloccio. Jane mentions that she enjoyed the attention of the online dating community as much as going out on dates with these guys herself, and even describes herself as a dating snob. That brings up the major criticism of this book.

Some have found Jane Coloccio to be condescending in her tone, looking down on men who had jobs and incomes that aren’t up to her preconceived standards. Get ready for a “spoiler” to this book, so stop reading if you don’t want to know the ending.

SPOILER ALERT: Despite saying she would not settle for a man with a good job and a bad attitude, she apperently meets and falls in love with a man with a good career and a six-figure salary, but who seems to be somewhat distant and disinterested. That’s a shame.

That being said, Confessions of An Online Dating Addict: A True Account of Dating and Relating in the Internet Age sounds like a good dating journal for women finding themselves in similar situations, and the last several chapters are devoted to giving internet dating tips for women. So if that sounds like something you’ll find interesting or helpful, I hope you enjoy the read.
